I’m sure you’ve heard of cases where a little spark of fire destroyed lives and properties beyond repair. ‘A little spark.’ It may even be an invisible spark which you can never expect to light up anything, not to talk of burning things.
You may begin to wander, is it not just a little spark?
Yes it is.
A very little spark of fire that matters.
Fire burns, not because of its quantity or volume, but because it is fire. Fire burns, whether it is great or small. Once it sees anything that can serve as fuel, it continues to spread. You can only know how it starts, you may really not know the extent to which it burns.
Don’t forget, it is still that little spark?
Let’s check out a little member of the body that lights out little sparks of fire.
According to the Bible, the tongue is a very little member that has the same attribute with fire. Let’s check out what that means.
James 3:5 ‘Even so the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things…’
Wait a minute! ‘…a little member…’ how great a work little members can do.
A little member means a member with less significant roles. Although it has roles, we may not regard them as major roles that keeps the body functioning. We can say that the brain has more significant roles compared to the hands and legs while the tongue have lesser roles compared to them.
The point is that the tongue is one of the little members of the body, but in the actual sense, it has the most vital roles. In fact, it is one of the parts of the body that is most spoken of in the Bible.
‘…Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!’
The tongue has a direct connection with the heart. It speaks directly from, and to the heart.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. – Pro.18:21
What you say is who you are and who you will become. So the tongue has a strong connection with out lives.
As little as it is, it determines our successes and failures.
Once you say something, it is impossible to ‘unsay’ it. Every bad, negative and sinful word, positive confession you say is like fire that burns. When you say positive things, you ignite your potentials of doing great and when you speak negative words, you make your self powerless.
Don’t speak evil about and to yourself. Don’t lash your tongue on people. Be very courteous and careful with what you say. Make sure your words are acceptable before God. You don’t just speak whatever you feel like saying. Weigh your words.
Words are life and power.
Be mindful of what comes out of your mouth because it makes up who you will be.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3
